Daniel – relationship builder for better business in fintech

Five years have passed since Daniel Brühn first entered the doors to Smart Refill in Helsingborg. Now he’s the grand old man in the fintech department of the company, focusing on banks and financial institutions. But he doesn’t work alone. Together with his colleagues in the key account team, he makes the business area grow steadily. And the journey has just begun!

We aim to act as the bank’s best friend, providing smart solutions for digital banking and financial services. To give an example: we have what it takes to become top of the class in PSD2 solutions, i.e. digital services following the EU directive for open banking, says Daniel Brühn, Key Account Manager for fintech at Smart Refill.

After founding and managing two printed magazines and working in radio advertising sales for the commercial radio operator MTG, Daniel made Smart Refill the epicenter of his career. Already from day 1, his focus was on banks and financial institutions. Organisations in these sectors need to excel in their digitalization to keep up with the development, but often need help doing so.

Innovation hub for the banks

Smart Refill first became market leading in top up solutions for the telecom sector, providing applications for mobile operators such as Telia, Telenor, and Tre. The next step was to get into fintech. With customers such as Skandiabanken, Resurs Bank, Sparbankerna, and Handelsbanken, the company has grown to become a major player. Skandiabanken’s mobile bank was one of the first in the country, built by Smart Refill and twice awarded “Mobile bank of the year” in Sweden.

I take a proactive role, helping banks to grow their businesses. I see myself rather as a relationship builder than a salesperson, helping them develop their digital offer. When I ask our customers what they value most about us, it’s that we’re always in the forefront of development and that we get things done quickly. Those words warm the hearts of everybody at Smart Refill. We’re also proud to help customers launch quicker than they would have been able to do by themselves. It’s no overstatement to say that we many times work as the bank’s “innovation hub”, says Daniel.

A winning workplace

Just as secure payment solutions can be said to be the common thread of Smart Refill’s two business areas, cooperation and job satisfaction is the thread that weaves “team Smart Refill” together.

It’s been quite a ride so far! After building Smart Refill’s fintech offer together with the founder, we are now embarking on the next leg of the journey, both for the company as a whole and for the fintech segment. Working at Smart Refill is so much fun. Employee satisfaction and teamwork has always been prioritized. Besides providing great solutions to the customers, the best thing about this job is my colleagues, Daniel concludes.
